Credit card users advised on public safety
Consumers have been offered some new advice on how to better protect themselves online.
According to a spokesman from Sophos, a company which specialises in providing software solutions to tackle viruses and other threats, extra care should be taken when using public computers.
Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at the firm, said it was important for credit card users to be aware that systems which are utilised by others - such as those in libraries or cafes - are often more open to cybercrime.
"You simply don't know what the other ten users who have been there that day have been installing on those computers," he added.
Last year, a survey conducted by Accenture found that 88% of respondents believed personal irresponsibility is the main cause for identity theft and fraud when using the internet.
It was also noted 70% of people in the UK do not keep a written copy of their account passwords - in comparison to 49% in the US.
