Credit card provider Santander: Half-term breaks can cost more than later holidays
Santander conducted the study by looking at prices for holidays for a family of four across five popular destinations.
The credit card provider found that a trip from Gatwick to Lanzarote costs £5,485.62 for a holiday package between 24 and 31 October, compared to £1,572.46 a week later.
This means that holiday makers have to fork out 249% more if they travel during half-term.
Santander recommended that those looking to take a break during half-term consider taking the Santander Zero credit card, so that they save money on foreign exchange.
Director of Santander cards Emma Roberts said: "For those parents who are worried about the ever mounting costs of going abroad during the school holidays, the Santander Zero card is a great way to avoid paying additional and sometimes unexpected fees."
Holders of the Zero credit card could save money on spending abroad as there is no foreign exchange fee, she added.
Those looking to save money on their holiday spending could also consider purchasing a prepaid currency card by providers such as FairFX and CaxtonFX.
