Credit card provider releases business travel study
Credit card provider Barclaycard has released a study showing that businesses that are choosing to cut down on travel are doing so more to cut down on costs than as a result of environmental policy.
According to the research, of the 15% of business travelers who expect to take less trips this year, 57% will do so due to a decline in business or to cut costs.
Only 1% will cut down on travel due to company environmental policy.
A third of those polled said they thought the government should have overriding responsibility of the environmental impact of business travel, with only a fifth saying it is the individual's responsibility.
Neil Radley, managing director of Barclaycard Commercial, commented: "2009 will see the environment make gains as business travel is trimmed back in the face of economic uncertainty. But it is sad that this is not due to firm policies putting sustainability at the heart of the business process."
Barclaycard is currently offering a credit card for small businesses with free European AA breakdown cover and up to 56 days interest free credit when customers settle in full and on time.
