Credit card provider American Express has advised travellers to take out travel insurance even if they are staying closer to home.
According to the credit card provider, more people are taking out single trip travel insurance than last year.
However, head of American Express Insurance Services Chris Rolland suggested that multi-trip annual insurance can be useful for holidaying in the UK.
Mr Rolland stated that while it may be tempting in the short-term to take out a single trip policy because of the price, it may leave holidaymakers exposed if they take other breaks within the UK.
"With 'staycations' on the rise, its still important to make sure trips closer to home are covered so that you're not out of pocket if you have to cancel the trip or if something goes wrong," he said.
American Express is also currently offering a British AirwaysAmerican Express credit card which gives users one airmile for every £1 spent on the card.
There is no annual fee on the credit card and the rate is typical 19.9% APR variable.
