Credit card movie 'hits close to home'
A newly-released film about a clothes addict who racks up debt on her credit cards hits home with viewers who may have used this method of payment, according to one critic.
Speaking to CNN about the comedy Confessions of a Shopaholic, Hollywood.com box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian said during the current economic slowdown it is more likely people will turn away from this type of movie.
He compared the revenue taken by this picture in comparison to horror remake Friday the 13th, which performed better this weekend.
According to Mr Dergarabedian, the slasher flick is more appealing to cash-strapped audiences because if they are enjoying a good scare at the cinema, they "can't really be thinking about" mortgages and loans.
But because Confessions of a Shopaholic is about money problems, people may stay away, he added.
The movie stars ex-Home and Away actress Isla Fisher and was released on February 20th.
