Credit card holders 'should regularly check statements for irregularities'
According to the voice of the industry for payment fraud matters, credit card holders should never let their cards or card details out of their sight when making a transaction.
Holders should also regularly check their credit card and bank statements regularly for any irregularities.
The association also suggested credit card holders should only give out their details over the phone if they have instigated the call and are familiar with the company.
Those travelling overseas should make sure they have their credit card provider's contact details with them in case their card is blocked.
A spokesperson for Equifax, Neil Munroe, also added this advice to card holders: "It is important that you look after and [are] aware of all the different places where your information can be gotten from and make sure that is secure."
