Credit card holders in US and UK warned not to give out details over the phone
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has issued the warning following news of a scam in which veterans are asked to give out their credit card details and other personal financial information over the phone.
The bogus caller claims to be updating VA prescription information.
They say VA has recently changed the method it uses for dispensing prescriptions and asks the veteran to provide their details.
VA's under secretary of health Dr Gerald Cross said: "VA has not changed its processes for dispensing prescription medicines.
"Nor has VA changed its long-standing commitment to protect the personal information of this nation's veterans."
Meanwhile in the UK, police in Suffolk have warned residents not to give out personal information such as credit card details over the phone, according to the Lowestoft Journal.
The warning follows news that at least three elderly people have fallen victim to a phone scam in which a bogus caller claims to work for a telephone company and then asks his victims to tell him their credit card details.
