Credit card holder advice: Shop safely online this Christmas
According to the UK Payments Administration, more than 32 million people shop online and everyone can play their part in fighting against fraud.
The administration issued simple advice that could help credit card holders protect themselves from fraud.
When shopping online, it is important that all consumers log out once they have completed their purchases and save the confirmation email as a record of their orders.
Computer users should also remember to keep their PC protected by ensuring they have up-to-date anti-virus software and the latest operating system.
Debit and credit card holders should also look for the padlock symbol when shopping online as it is a good indication that websites are reputable.
Katy Worobec, head of fraud control for The UK Cards Association, said: "More of us than ever before will be doing our Christmas shopping online this year, and there is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't be doing so in complete confidence."
Credit card holders have also recently been reminded not to give out their credit card details over the phone to cold-callers.
