Credit card guide published for travellers and holidaymakers
The UK Cards Association and the travel association Abta have launched a consumer advice guide offering tips on withdrawing cash at cash machines abroad and how to minimise the chances of falling victim to credit card fraud.
Called Using your Card Overseas, the guide could be useful for both holidaymakers and business travellers who use credit cards for transactions abroad.
Sandra Quinn, director of communications for the association, said: "Using your debit or credit card is a convenient and safe way to pay when you're overseas. However, everyone should be aware that there any be fees or costs connected with using your card in a foreign cash machine or shop."
The association advised travellers to ensure their credit card company has up-to-date contact information for them, particularly a mobile number.
Many credit card providers add a charge on to purchases made on cards abroad. However, Nationwide offers a credit card which does not charge for these transactions.
