Ali Chalhoub's credit card fraud plan was foiled when staff at Ernst Jones in Portsmouth recognised him as the same man who had tried to buy a watch with a credit card in a different name 11 days earlier, according to the Portsmouth News.
The watches were said to be worth £5,000 and £4,500.
Mr Chalhoub of Victoria Road, London, was given a 12-week sentence suspended for 12 months. He has also been ordered to pay £500 in court costs.
In other credit card news, holders of some cards such as the American Express Platinum card have been advised to make sure they use their card occasionally to ensure they are not issued with a dormancy fee.
