Insurance against fraudulent use of credit cards is one of the services offered to students as part of Barclays' new student package.
Those going off to university may also be able to benefit from an interest-free overdraft of up to £2,000 which comes with Barclays' Student Additions bank account.
A further £1,000 overdraft will also be made available to students at a rate of 8.9% EAR.
In addition, students with the account are entitled to a Visa debit card with new built in contactless technology.
This allows users to pay for transactions worth up to £10 without having to insert a pin number or write their signature.
Barclays is leading the way with contactless technology, which allows debit and credit card holders to save time paying for small items.
The bank has installed contactless payment systems in retailers across the country.
Andrew Harris, head of current accounts at Barclays, said: "We recognise the financial challenges students have and that's why we have looked to provide them with a relevant package to support them through university life."
