Credit card customers have increased leisure spending, says Virgin Money
Credit card customers are spending more money on going out, according to a study by Virgin Money Credit Card.
The credit card provider found that credit card customers increased spending in bars, cinemas, restaurants and theatres by 25% in the first three months of 2009 compared to the same period last year.
According to Virgin Money, the biggest increase was in March when spending jumped by more than 55% compared to the same month in 2008.
The spending boost could be down to the effect of a late Easter this year, the credit card provider suggested.
Grant Bather, spokesman at Virgin Money, said: "The spending is responsible as there are no signs of people getting into debt and customers should be careful to spend what they can afford and to have a plan for repaying any debt."
Virgin credit card offers 16 months 0.0% per annum on balance transfers to new customers, plus a handling fee of 2.98%. The typical rate is 16.6% APR variable.
Credit card holders can benefit from 10% off Virgin Holidays when they pay with the card.
