Most people are in agreement that the government's plans to ban unsolicited credit limit increases are a good idea, the head of research at the financial comparison service said.
However, the move is not reflective of the current lending environment, head of research Pierre Williams said.
In the meantime, the Bank is reporting reductions to credit limits, Mr Williams continued.
"It's a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing," he explained.
The Bank of England survey showed that lenders reduced the amount of unsecured credit to households in the three months to mid June.
Mr Williams said that MoneyExpert.com's research supported the Bank of England's data.
"Our research has discovered that 2.7 million people have had their card limit reduced by an average of £1,960," he said.
