A spokesperson for Apacs said: "We think it will be extremely convenient for people making those kinds of payments, and it will prove to be a quick and easy way of making transactions. I think it will reduce queuing times and this type of payment will prove to be very useful."
The contactless technology is available in several stores for purchases under £10.
EAT, Pret a Manger, Yo! Sushi and Boots are just some of the places that debit and credit card holders can use the new payment system.
Contactless pay point machines have recently been introduced in selected Boots stores across the UK as well. By the end of the year, Boots will have installed 'tap and go' terminals in 15 stores in London and six in Liverpool.
To reduce fraud, every few times that the technology is used, customers will be asked to confirm their pin number as well.
