Consumers look to spend more on leisure time
Credit card holders are "sticking two fingers up at the recession" and looking to increase the amount of money they spend on leisure, an expert says.
Mark Bower, lifestyle sales director at lastminute.com, insists headlines of economic gloom are not deterring consumers in his industry.
Rather he notes the leisure sector is burgeoning as people try to buoy themselves amid all the talk of financial woes.
Mr Bower explains: "People have decided that they have had enough of it and want to go out and enjoy themselves a little bit.
"Seventy per cent of people we surveyed nationally said they plan to spend exactly the same this year on their leisure time, if not more. This is an area we are seeing some real growth in."
According to a recent press release from lastminute.com on leisure spending, three million people are looking spend more on their holidays this year compared to 2008.
