Consumers have been advised that checking bank and credit card statements can help to minimise the risk of travel fraud.

Frances Tuke is the spokesperson for Abta - the Travel Association. She said in the case of criminal activity within the travel sector, it is better to stop such happenings rather than react after it has taken place.
Would-be holidaymakers can reduce their chances of becoming a victim by obtaining and keeping the correct documentation for any getaway plans they book, as well as checking out companies before making arrangements and payments.
"Trying to convict people is extremely difficult and labour intensive," Ms Tuke explained.
"Prevention is much better than the cure in this instance."
According to statistics published by the Sterling Prevention Unit - a London Metropolitan police initiative - Britain has one of the highest rates of identity fraud, which can be caused by stolen debit or credit card details.
