Consumers 'acting greener as a result of the crunch'
Uncertain economic times are leading many people to look towards more environmentally-friendly products, it has been suggested.
Consumers 'acting greener as a result of the crunch'
According to Abbey, the company which was recently named provider of Best New Credit Card Product of the Year, said the supposed credit crunch cloud could have a "green lining".
Citing a study put together by cahoot, 72 per cent of people were now switching off electrical items when not in use, 60 per cent were installing energy-efficient light bulbs and 58 per cent were turning down the heating.
Matthew Timms, a spokesman for the research team, said money was at the forefront of most people's minds at the moment and this was causing them to think environmentally.
"It's great to see that the simple sacrifices people are making are at least helping us to live greener as a result," he added.
In addition to Abbey's honour at the annual Card Awards, the Co-operative Bank was announced as the winner of the Best Charity and Best Corporate Social Responsibility Programme.
