Consumer confidence up in February
Credit cards could be back in use on the high street as new figures show UK consumer confidence has risen this month.
The February statistics, compiled by pollsters GfK NOP on behalf of the European Commission, found a growing optimism that the economic downturn will improve.
While obviously still feeling the effects of the recession, public expectations of the forthcoming 12 months were less gloomy than anticipated, with the consumer confidence index up two points to -35.
Rachel Joy, who works on the survey, says: "Consumer confidence remains very fragile, although rose slightly from its January figure.
"The public certainly recognise that it's been a tough year... however, looking to the future, we saw an uplift in consumers' views of both their personal situation and the general economy over the next 12 months."
