Condé Nast MD 'has two credit cards'

The managing director of Condé Nast in Britain has revealed he uses two American Express cards to keep his business and personal accounts apart.

Nicholas Coleridge told the Sunday Times that he is a saver and a spender - although he never saves quite as much as he intends. He also believes he is spending the more on his children than at any other time, as the school fees are nearly into six-figures.

"I spend my life lecturing the children that we've entered a new age of prudence. They agree in theory, but that hasn't stopped them asking for £20 before they go out of the house," he said.

Mr Coleridge admitted that his greatest extravagance was doing up a walled garden in his Worcestershire home, complete with heated swimming pool, box hedging and other topiary.

Last week, American Express's vice president of UK lending, Tom Allder, advised British householders to pay for everyday items with a cash back card or a reward card instead of a debit card. This could, he said, earn people hundreds of pounds of free cash.
