Children 'can expose parents to online credit card risks'
Michael Lynch, fraud expert at life assistance company CPP, states that as well as "racking up bills", youngsters can inadvertently give out personal information without understanding the potential implications of doing so.
He suggests children may not be aware that certain sites are secure and others are not.
Mr Lynch adds they may input credit card and address information onto the internet, where fraudsters may be able to access and misuse it, "whether it's through phishing attacks to either sell the data or commit fraud using their credit card details".
The expert's comments follow the publication of the October 2008 CPP report about online family fraud.
It found that more than three-quarter (77 per cent) of youngsters use the internet without supervision, while nine per cent know where their parents keep their banking details.
