A credit card affinity programme is being launched by Capital One Finance to give supporters a convenient way to donate to charity.
The credit card is available to nonprofit organisations of all sizes.
Launched in the United States, charities can apply for uniquely designed credit cards using an online tool. They will then be able to encourage their supporters to apply for the credit cards to support them.
All rewards earned on the credit cards will go directly to support the nonprofit organisation.
Chief executive of Network for Good which provides online fundraising services, said: "Nonprofits today are looking for innovative ways to increase donor support to meet the demands of a tough economy. The Card Lab Connect programme provides nonprofits with free marketing tools and a convenient new channel to reach, engage and mobilise their supporters."
A survey by Capital One Card Lab Connect showed that 57 per cent of those asked said they have been unable to make the same charitable donations they have in the past due to financial concerns.
The data suggests that charities have to find ways to help donors to continue to give through the recession.
Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Action Aid and Amnesty all offer charity credit cards which allow users to give to the charity when they use the credit cards.
