Card popularity rising among students
More and more students are finding it useful to have a credit card at university, a study has found.
American organisation Sallie Mae discovered that nearly one third of credit card holding college-goers use plastic to fund their tuition fees.
Furthermore, 92% charge school supplies including textbooks to plastic - up from 85% in the organisation's last study in 2004.
Overall, American students boast an average of 4.6 credit cards each, with half confessing this figure is higher.
Most (84%) would like better education about financial management, including how to deal with credit cards.
Nearly two-thirds maintained high school is the best place for this tuition, while 40% opted for university lessons on the subject instead.
The study follows a recent survey by NatWest which revealed young people are getting better at money management with around 86% of 12 to 19-year-olds keeping track of their finances.
