Card cloning warning issued in Kent
Motorists in Kent are on their guard following reports a busy petrol station has become the latest victim of credit card fraud.
The Shell garage on the Chatham-bound carriageway of Blue Bell Hill is believed to have been targeted by criminals who cloned users' cards, the Medway Messenger reports.
Kent police are now investigating the crime and have urged recent customers to check their statements carefully for signs of unauthorised withdrawals.
A spokesman for Shell UK told the news source: "The security of customer transactions is Shell's primary concern. For us every instance of card fraud is one too many."
Meanwhile, Peter Tippett, vice president of research and intelligence for Verizon Communications, told the Associated Press this week that anti-fraud measures may be the reason why sales of card details by fraudsters are so cheap.
He explained: "The value of just the front side of your credit card has gone to almost zero - the bad guys need to get more and more data."
