The flaw was discovered by researchers in the US who presented their findings at a conference in Las Vegas.
According to security researchers, the attack works in a similar way to a phone tap except it operates between computers and trusted web sites.
Criminals are able to setup an eavesdropping system to capture credit card details and passwords.
Microsoft, which runs Internet Explorer, is investigating the problem. Mozilla which owns the Firefox browser said that the problems would be fixed.
Jon Miller, expert and director of security assessment service Accuvant Labs, commented: "What kind of makes this earth-shattering is these aren't the most sophisticated attacks in the world."
