Brits urged to spend within their means during sales
UK consumers have been urged to spend within their means during the post-Christmas sales so as not to fall into debt in the New Year.
In an interview with the Telegraph, personal finance expert Michael Ossei revealed that there is a growing number of Brits who lose their inhibitions after tightening their belts at Christmas and spend more than they can afford in the sales.
He told the news provider: "The sales are particularly attractive to the less savvy opportunists. They will walk down the high street and as soon as they see something branded '75 per cent off' they are going to buy it.
"They don't need it, but they buy it. That's where the whole thing spirals out of control."
Mr Ossei added that UK consumers should carefully consider if they need what they are buying and think about how they are going to pay for it.
Analysts estimate that Brits spent around £2.5 billion on Tuesday 27th December and an estimated £1.8 billion on Boxing Day, making it the highest post-Christmas spending on record.
