Brits 'still spending' on holidays
Cash-strapped Brits are refusing to let the economic downturn spoil their fun this summer, with the vast majority still hoping for a holiday.
According to a new poll by YouGov on behalf of cruise company Carnival UK, 72% will be spending as much this year as last on getting away.
In fact, nearly a third of respondents are even considering paying more for their vacation in 2009.
Carnival chief executive officer David Dingle said: "The findings from YouGov have confirmed for us that there are still plenty of holidaymakers out there planning a holiday for 2009 despite the current economic situation."
Younger demographics however, are proving more cautious with their credit cards - the survey found 37% of 18-24-year-olds expect to spend less on holidays this year.
The Carnival research backs up a recent poll by Caxton FX of its currency cardholders. It found only 5% of those asked would be giving up their annual break in the recession, with 40% preferring to cut back on shoes and clothes purchases instead.
