Brits spent £19m an hour on Cyber Monday
UK consumers spent a total £456 million on 5th December
Online shoppers are reported to have spent around £19 million an hour on Monday (5th December).
UK consumers spent a total £456 million on 'Cyber Monday'- the biggest internet shopping day of the year - with sales peaking between 1pm and 2pm when office staff went online during their lunch breaks, reports the Daily Telegraph.
The figures represent a 14 per cent rise compared to last year, as UK credit card holders were attracted by special one-day deals.
Many also chose to do some Christmas shopping on the move, with Argos revealing that more than 200,000 items were reserved by smartphone and tablet computer users.
Earlier this month, internet analysis firm Experian Hitwise forecast that over two billion visits will be made to online retailers throughout December.
The company estimates that UK consumers will spend a total of 350 million hours shopping online in December, equating to eight hours and 45 minutes per person.
