Brits should 'not hold any security fears' over contactless payments
Britons should not be concerned about using contactless payments as the technology is fully secure, according to an industry expert.
Mark Bowerman, spokesperson for the UK Cards Association, claimed that UK consumers which use contactless bank cards benefit from "fast, convenient and secure" payments.
He said: "Anyone with a contactless card should have no concerns over security issues. There is a limit for each contactless transaction of £15 and on top of this, for every few contactless transactions, a PIN is required to authorise the transaction.
"These security measures mean that the potential gains for fraudsters making contactless transactions are small and therefore it is not an attractive fraud for them."
Mr Bowerman added that contactless cardholders who are the victims of fraud will not be liable for any losses.
In the UK, the number of cards with contactless functionality reached 19.6 million at the end of September 2011. This year, Visa plans to issue an additional ten million contactless-enabled bank cards across the UK to take the total in circulation to 30 million.
