Brits could turn to credit cards as energy bills continue to rise
More Britons could be set to apply for credit cards after new research revealed that many UK consumers are struggling to pay for rising energy bills.
Insurance firm swiftcover.com has published a new study which shows that 39 per cent cited utility bills as their top financial concern.
Younger consumers, aged between 16 and 24, were the least concerned age group as just a fifth of respondents worried about their bills, while 47 per cent of 45 to 55-year-olds cited gas and electricity payments as their biggest concern.
Amanda Edwards, senior marketing manager at swiftcover.com, claimed that the issue is as "as universal as it is troubling."
She said: "Staying warm during winter should be a right, but with rising prices, it is increasingly becoming a privilege.
"When you think of all the snow last year it's clear how difficult it is to live without central heating, however paying the bill is clearly causing people misery."
The research also found that 23 per cent of mortgage holders are concerned about being able to meet monthly payments.
