Brits are 'prioritising holidays over other luxuries'
Credit card provider Tesco has revealed that people are still putting holidays first above other luxuries.
According to research by Tesco Travel Money, over 25 million Brits intend to take a holiday abroad this year. Over half of those plan to take two or more overseas breaks.
However, due to the economic climate over a third of people intend to spend less on their vacation than last year, and 12% will spend significantly less.
One area in which holidaymakers could save money is in currency exchange, Tesco says. Finding a good exchange rate ahead of time could leave consumers with more money to spend on their vacation.
However, less than half of Brits shop around for the best currency rate, and over a quarter go for convenience over exchange rate.
A Tesco Travel Money spokesperson said: "It's great to see that holidaymakers are pulling out the stops to get value for money and making sacrifices to ensure they get their two weeks in the sun. But they're still missing a trick with their holiday spending money."
Earlier this month, Abbey launched a credit card called Zero which offers fee-free currency exchange when it is used abroad.
