Britons will use their debit and credit cards to keep their wallets full this Christmas, the findings of a new study suggest.
According to research carried out by Sainsbury's Finance, a total of £11 billion is to be taken out of the country's cash machines over the course of December.
While much of this will have been taken out earlier on in the month, last-minute shopping and festive socialising means that the most money will be taken out on 23rd December.
At the same time, the figures show that the amount of money being taken out of ATMs will be around 12 per cent up on last year, with Sainsbury's Finance head of cash machines Alex Blake advising people to stock up on money so as to avoid any disappointment.
"This party season make sure you don't leave getting your cash to the last minute - why not get your spending money whilst you're doing your shopping. It certainly beats standing in line in the freezing cold on your night out," he said.
Meanwhile, credit card company Visa has also predicted that Friday 23rd will be the busiest shopping day of the year.
