Britons in debt urged not to 'suffer in silence'
British credit card holders should not suffer in silence if they find themselves in financial difficulty, according to a leading UK debt charity.
David Rodger, managing director of the Debt Advice Foundation, urged those in debt to seek advice from a professional to help them work out how they can deal with their financial situation.
He said: "For anyone who is struggling please don't suffer in silence. Take the brave first step of contacting a debt advice charity offering free and impartial guidance.
"If you are not ready to talk, download some of the online tools developed to help people to budget, calculate their debts and even write letters to creditors."
Mr Rodger added that he expects more people to require debt advice in the coming months as unemployment levels continue to rise and the government reduces its funding levels.
It follows a new report from the Council of Mortgage Lenders which showed that the number of properties taken into possession by mortgage lenders in the third quarter of 2011 reached 9,200, an increase of 100 homes from the second quarter.
