Be careful with your money on holiday, warns research
Holidaymakers have been urged to take a cautious approach when spending money abroad, after a new survey showed that up to 70% of UK travellers run out of cash five days into a seven day trip.
The findings come as part of a new poll from Teletext Holidays which showed that as many as one in five of Britons abroad have returned home earlier than planned due to a lack of funds.
On average, these holidaymakers will save around £620 to take with them on trips, however in the majority of instances this money will not last for the duration of the holiday.
Credit cards made up the majority of this financial shortfall, with another 36% of travelers choosing to withdraw cash instead with an average of £227.83 spent and ten per cent relying on money borrowed from friends or family.
Teletext Holidays managing director Victoria Saunders said: "It's important that people look at the total cost of their holiday at the time of booking, and consider what's included and what's not, if they want to avoid a big credit card bill to welcome them home."
The cost of meals out was listed as the biggest cause of overspending, with drink, day trips and gifts also featuring in the countdown.
