Be careful with online information, says CPP
Consumers should be careful what they do with their personal information when using credit cards to shop online, it has been suggested.
Danny Harrison, identity theft manager for international marketing services business CPP, explains there are a number of risks that people face when using the internet to make purchases.
He explains individuals will "quite happily" give out their personal details such as name, address, date of birth and even where they are born, which could potentially be used by fraudsters to carry out identity theft.
"With your date of birth [they] can get your birth certificate or a copy of [it]," Mr Harrison states.
CPP has offered a number of hints and tips on how to minimise the risks associated with online credit card fraud.
These include installing anti-virus and anti-phishing tools, making use of an active firewall which upgrades and updates itself automatically and keeping personal information safe.
