'Barclays releases contactless technology vidcast'
A 'vidcast' has been launched to help explain contactless technology on debit and credit cards, Barclays has revealed.
The credit card provider has produced the short video to explain what contactless is, where it can be used and Barclays' role in issuing the new technology.
It is available to view at www.barclays.co.uk/video.
Since March 2009, debit and credit card holders with the contactless technology have been able to pay for transactions of £10 or less by holding their card up to a special reader.
Customers with these contactless debit and credit cards do not have to enter a pin or insert their card into a terminal in order to complete a transaction.
This could save them time on small purchases.
A total of two million customers have contactless Barclaycard credit cards already.
Last month Barclaycard showcased contactless charity donations at the Mayor's Thames Festival.
Guests were given a specially designed contactless payment card pre-loaded with £5, which they could use at terminals around the Oxo Tower in London where the event was being held to make charity donations.
