Barclaycard users 'should manage their accounts online'
Barclaycard holders have been advised to manage their accounts online using a new account management system.
Called mybarclaycard, the system allows charge and credit card holders to make secure online payments, including one off payments.
Cardholders can also set up regular direct debits so they do not have to be concerned about missing a payment deadline, according to the credit card provider.
Barclaycard has suggested this could help card holders to combat the effects of the postal strikes, which have seen many cheques and payments being held up.
If credit card firms charge up to £12 a month for late payment, the average borrower with two credit cards could lose £24 this month, the Daily Express recently reported.
A total of 13.1 million cards are paid off by cheque sent through the post before the penalty deadline, according to the paper.
Amer Sajed, chief executive of Barclaycard UK, said of the new system: "We want to make our customers' lives as easy as possible and by managing their account online, customers can take control.
"Managing an account online with mybarclaycard will avoid the impact of issues such as postal strike action. If customers do not have access to internet facilities, they can make a payment over the phone."
