Barclaycard used for learning grant
A novel way of delivering grants to qualifying families has been used to help those who qualify for technology support.
Following the government's announcement earlier this week that a number of families across the country will have access to technology support to help with learning and attainment, Barclaycard has revealed its collaboration with technology group Becta to help with the Home Access programme.
Specific Barclaycard cards have been used to deliver grant funding to the relevant people and to ensure that they spend the money in the way intended.
Technology introduced on the card restricts where it can be used, to ensure that money is being spent at particular merchants - helping to reduce the risk of money being spent elsewhere.
"For a number of years, Barclaycard has demonstrated substantial commitment to supporting the communities in which it operates: directly, through programmes such as Horizons, and more widely through responsible lending and secure, relevant card technologies," said head of public sector at Barclaycard commercial Kris Reagan.
He added that the company is proud of its involvement with Becta to help improve access to educational resources across the UK.
This week the government confirmed that some 270,000 families on low income with receive a free laptop and free broadband access.
