Barclaycard is reportedly considering monetary rewards for credit card holders who shop at outlets affiliated with the provider.
According to Retail Week, the company is looking to launch the scheme within the next 12 months, which would bring it into competition with other loyalty initiatives including Tesco's Clubcard and Nectar.
Barclaycard chief executive Antony Jenkins told the news source: "I've always believed we should launch a scheme which leverages the different parts of our business in the UK.
"I envisage shoppers get rewarded at a vast range of retailers from online shopping to a takeaway or restaurant, when they make their usual purchases on their Barclaycard."
Mr Jenkins added he had no desire to make "the points mountain" higher with a complicated redemption policy, pledging instead to promote a "simple and convenient" value package.
It has been a busy month for Barclaycard - the credit card provider announced earlier this week it is teaming up with Orange to provide a mobile phone payment system later this year.
