Tesco Compare, which offers credit card comparison information, is offering advice about reducing energy bills.

According to the credit card comparison service, consumers should ask their suppliers for a refund on any credit balance and to learn about the most competitive energy bills in the market in preparation for the colder months.

Consumers could save up to 40% on energy bills by following these tips and more, the service advised.

The group carried out research to discover where the most energy is used in the home.

According to the results, lighting makes up nearly 40 per cent of an energy bill and heating towel rails can cost as much as £10 a month to keep running.

Tesco is also currently offering a Clubcard credit card that allows holders to collect Clubcard points on spending on the card.

Credit card holders pay 0% interest on all purchases for 12 months from the date on which the account is opened. The rate is 16.9% APR variable.
