Credit card customers need to be aware that their personal details are "valuable in the wrong hands", an expert has urged.

A spokesperson for Apacs, the UK trade association for payments, stated in recent days that people need to bear this in mind when making payments and be vigilant with their cards.
In addition, they should keep their pin code safe and check their bank statements against receipts to identify any discrepancies, as well as making sure their card provider has an up-to-date record of their personal details.
"Be aware that your card details are valuable in the wrong hands," he concludes.
The representative's comments follow the publication of a news article in the Times from earlier this week, which said fraud using British cards in the USA has risen by 118 per cent over the course of the last three years, reaching a total of £24.6 million in 2007.
