Airline combats card fraud
A budget airline in South Africa has announced new plans to cut card fraud by introducing additional airport security checks.
From next month, all passengers on Mango flights who booked tickets using a credit card will have to present it on request.
The measure is a response to a recent increase in card crime, particularly concerning air tickets.
Mango chief executive officer Nico Bezuidenhout added in a statement that travellers must also exercise caution when booking flights online.
He explained: "There have been emails circulating again promising highly discounted fares on several carriers and despite cautionary statements released it seems that these unscrupulous operators are still in business."
Mr Bezuidenhout concluded: "If you are unsure, call the airline you wish to travel with."
In related news, the Saga Group has reassured its credit card customers that it remains committed to free transactions in Europe.
Paul Green, head of communications at the company, said its Platinum card is increasingly popular for that very reason.
