Abbey has said its credit card could help ease easting expenses for people feeling the pinch as a result of the ongoing effects of the credit crunch.
The card offers three per cent cashback on supermarket shopping for six months, up to a maximum of £75, a feature which may benefit workers who are shunning cafes and sandwich shops in favour of packed lunches.
According to research carried out last month for the bank by Opinium Research, 56 per cent of British people are now cutting back on eating out. Some 17 per cent are now "al desko" diners who take a packed lunch to work.
Eating at home and in the office led to grocery bills climbing by an average of £50.96 per month, the study found.
Head of credit cards at Abbey Callum Gibson commented: "The current economic climate means that people are looking to make cutbacks where they can to make their money go further."
Other offerings from Abbey include the Zero card, which offers a naught per cent balance transfer and foreign exchange fee, as well as zero per cent on purchases and balance transfers for six months and no annual fee.
