Abbey has been awarded the title of Best New Credit Card Product of the Year at the 2009 Cards Awards ceremony, it has emerged.
The company was praised for its Abbey Zero credit card, which offers 0% finance on balance transfers, cash withdrawals and foreign purchases.
Hosted by John Humphrys, the event took place at London's Battersea Evolution and with more than 1,300 guests in attendance, a spokesman for the provider said it was an impressive result.
Roger Lovering, managing director of credit cards at Abbey, added entries from other firms - including American Express, Barclaycard and Bank of America - had made for a tough category.
"We had two entries shortlisted, the Abbey Credit Card and the eventual winner, the Abbey Zero Card, which received much media acclaim when it was launched last April," he added.
The card has an ongoing interest rate of 18.9% APR and is designed with transparency in mind, boasting no annual fees.
