AA: Pay for fuel using cashback credit cards
AA advises British drives to earn money when they refuel
UK consumers who are struggling to afford to fill up their cars should pay for fuel using a cashback credit card, according to the AA.
A study from the motoring organisation and research firm Populus has revealed that more than one in four (28 per cent) of AA members are currently restricting the amount they spend when they refuel their car.
High prices at the pump are forcing motorists' hand, with UK drivers who spend an average of £30 on petrol each week now getting 34.6 fewer miles for their money than they did last year.
Mark Huggins, director of AA Financial Services, advised drivers to use a cashback credit card as it can "make a difference" to the weekly cost of refuelling.
He said: "A typical 50-litre petrol refill now costs £67.85, up by £9.61 compared to a year ago. Potentially, buying your fuel over a year with the AA Reward Plus card could get you the equivalent of a free refill."
The AA Reward Plus Visa credit card offers three per cent cashback on fuel and 0.5 per cent on other purchases.
