Mastercard ad inspires home secretary spoof
Home secretary Jacqui Smith's recent financial embarrassments have been sent up in a spoof mimicking Mastercard's 'priceless' advertisements.
Home secretary Jacqui Smith's recent financial embarrassments have been sent up in a spoof mimicking Mastercard's 'priceless' advertisements.
The Guardian reports the row over Smith's use of parliamentary expenses inspired a mock commercial by new internet-based political party Jury Team.
In it, the credit card provider's advertorial style is copied in pithy conclusion: "Getting people who won't abuse the system into parliament...priceless."
The slogan follows a list of items that Smith has claimed on parliamentary expenses including a £550 Habitat stone model sink and two pornographic films rented by her husband.
The commercial has been running on the Redditch Advertiser's website - Smith's local newspaper - with further publications expected to adopt the advertisement soon as well.
In other Barclaycard news, the provider recently inked a four-year sponsorship deal of the Mercury Prize, taking over from Nationwide.
As part of the initiative, Barclaycard will also introduce monthly live music events to be held at the Hospital Club in Covent Garden, London.
