According to research from credit card provider Halifax, many Brits are choosing to take a gap year later in life.
Almost half of those aged between 55 and 64 said they would like to take time out to travel and a total of 58% of those polled who were aged between 16 and 24 said they would be prepared to wait until later in life to do this.
Halifax also found the average so-called grey gapper, someone taking time out to travel aged between 55 and 64, spends roughly £2,604 on their break.
In comparison, 18 - 24 year olds spend up to £4,000 on their travels.
Russell Galley, director of loans at Halifax, said: "A mature gap year is a wonderful opportunity to experience different ways of life and see other parts of the world. But such a big adventure requires careful financial planning."
Halifax is currently offering a credit card called All in One, which offers 0% for nine months on purchases and balances transferred within the first 90 days with a 3% balance transfer fee.
The typical rate on the card is 15.9% APR variable.
